Ash

Ash is known for its strength - and also its springy qualities. It is has been used to make cars, baseball bats and much more. We find it great for furniture though! The light white colour is contemporary whilst the grain adds character.

  • It can also be 'Spalted'. This usually adds a pink hue to the timber, and some black and white patterning.
  • Can also be 'Olive Ash' where the tree has been infected with a non-harmful bacteria causing dark streaks through the timber.

Ash is abundant in the hedgerows and woodlands of Wales, however, it is suffering at the moment as a result of Ash Dieback and many are being felled for safety reasons.

Our sources collect stormfallen trees or fell ones in precarious situations. Slabs are air-dried for at least 3 years, and then conditioned in a solar kiln before using.
